The aim of Be Water Aware is to encourage people to spend time in and around water safely. The campaign week runs in April but messaging can be used throughout the year.

The messaging supports the aims and objectives of the UK National Drowning Prevention Strategy and that of other member organisations of the National Water Safety Forum. By aligning our messaging and supporting a calendar of campaigns we aim to reduce the number of accidental drownings in the UK. 

To assist fire and rescue services with data and to support a community risk based approach the FRS WAID data dashboard can be found below. The dashboard provides fire and rescue services with information on fatalities and water rescue incidents by fire service area.
